Doctor Who: Taiga’s Frozen Heart – Episode 3
Taiga’s Frozen Heart
The TARDIS hummed like a small electric toy, navigating the universe with calculated precision.

“I’m so glad the Queen chose you, Ezzy,” the Doctor said with a determined grin.
Ezzy couldn’t believe she’d agreed to this charade. She was kicking herself for letting Karen talk her into it.
“Yes, Doctor,” Ezzy replied, a bit annoyed. “I’m sure she had good intentions and I figured…”
“Yes,” the Doctor interrupted eagerly, ignoring her, “I’m very sure she did have good intentions. After all, she loves you. Wouldn’t that be a correct statement?”
“Yeah, sure, I suppose, Doctor,” Ezzy sighed.

They had just left, and already she felt a pang in her chest and a sinking feeling in her stomach. The Doctor was spot on. Damn him anyway!
Ezzy had strong feelings for Karen. Of course she did, she reasoned. They’d been through so much together in the last ten years.
Ezzy found it strange how the Doctor seemed to know so much about them after his brief visit. She scowled at the very idea. Damn it, Karen! She thought, redheads do have quick tempers.
Ezzy tried to control her temper, but it showed in the tone of her voice.
“Tell me, Doctor,” she asked sternly. “How the hell do you know so much about us?”
Oh damn, Ezzy bit her lip. That was way too obvious. She tried to retract her statement. “I mean, how does someone from another timeline know more about us than we do?”
“That’s quite simple, really. I’m the Doctor,” he replied, too busy at the controls. He looked up briefly and realized Ezzy wasn’t doing well.
“Oh, Ezzy, it’s okay. I totally understand how you feel,” the Doctor said, sensing her tension. “I can feel your emotions. You are a strong woman, full of determination and vigor.”
Suddenly, the TARDIS shuddered with a violent twist. Ezzy instinctively held on tight to the console. The Doctor yelled over the thundering noise, “I’ll have to get back to you on that, Ezzy. It seems we’ve reached our destination!”

The TARDIS whirled around ferociously but landed gently.
The Doctor bowed his head on the console, giving it a soft kiss. “Thank you, my dear TARDIS. What would I do without you?”
He looked up and noticed Ezzy giving him a strange look. “Oh, don’t mind my strange antics, Ezzy. It’s just that this craft and I have been through a lot together.”
Ezzy nodded with some concern. “I see, Doctor. I see.”
“No, I don’t believe you do,” the Doctor said softly. He walked around beaming with pride, softly touching the ribs of the TARDIS. He checked the timeline and quickly changed the subject. “Timeline: 2025”
Ezzy slowly shook her head, thinking how eccentric the Doctor really was. She said to herself, “Oh, Karen, what did you get me into?”
The Doctor pointed to the door of the TARDIS. “Come, this way. Ladies first, you know?”
Ezzy followed past the Doctor, stopped, and looked at him. “Really? I mean, you can’t seriously think that. Do you, Doctor?”
The Doctor paused for a long moment. “Ah. I guess you’re right, Ezzy. Shall I go first?”
“Ah. No, Doctor!” Ezzy turned and forced the door open, not realizing her own strength.
The blinding light from the sun stung her eyes as she stumbled out. Ezzy blinked, trying to get rid of the annoying black spots before her eyes.
The Doctor caught her. “Wait a minute until you regain your balance. There happens to be a binary star formation on this planet. That’s why the daylight is so intense here.”
Ezzy shaded her eyes, feeling pretty stupid as she leaned on the Doctor’s shoulder. “I thought where we were going had only one sun, Doctor? Where are we exactly?”
“Ah, good question, Ezzy,” the Doctor remarked, gazing at the stunning icy landscape. “This, my dear, is Planet Taiga, a smaller sibling to my homeworld, Gallifrey. TARDIS took us to the right place this time. Isn’t it breathtaking? Take a deep breath. Can’t you smell the crisp, clean air?”
“What happened to it?” Ezzy inquired, her voice filled with wonder.
“Unfortunately, this poor world was knocked off its axis, causing it to spin counterclockwise,” the Doctor explained. “The irregular rotation shifted the planet further into space, away from its sun’s warmth, resulting in a frigid climate with hardy winter trees unlike any other. Isn’t it a marvel?”
Suddenly, the Doctor darted off into the deep-frozen forest, quickly disappearing from sight. “The only way to show you the problem is by taking you to the problem,” he called out.
“Oh, how wonderful!” Ezzy exclaimed, her excitement growing. “What are you getting us into, Doctor? Oh great, now I’m talking to myself.”
She zipped up her parka, shivering as the weak sun dipped below the horizon. Her military instincts kicked in as she drew her sidearm. “Better not take any chances.”

Ezzy followed the Doctor into the labyrinth of frozen greenery.
