Today, with a heavy heart, I share the devastating news of the passing of my dear friend and visionary, Romeo Durscher. Many of you know me for my science fiction stories, and you might be surprised to learn how often I sought Romeo’s advice. I’m a writer, but I always strive for scientific accuracy in my work, and Romeo, with his background as a scientist and his deep understanding of the world, was an invaluable resource.

He wasn’t just a travel guru or a brilliant photographer; he was a true scientist and innovator. He was a ‘drone pioneer,’ as the DJI blog so eloquently put it, pushing the boundaries of what was possible in aerial imaging. His work, especially his stunning aerial photography, was a testament to his vision. Here in Las Vegas, he captured the iconic Wynn and Encore, and the M Resort, in a way few have ever seen. His artistry revealed a side of the city that was both majestic and intimate. He achieved this with his DJI Air 3S Flying Drone, demonstrating the power of aerial photography to transform our perception.

Before his time at DJI, he shared his passion for knowledge as an educator at NASA, inspiring countless minds in STEM fields. He believed in the power of exploration, both on Earth and beyond, a passion that resonated deeply with my own science fiction explorations. His scientific insights helped me ground my fictional worlds in a sense of real possibility.

He generously shared his knowledge and insights with me, not just about photography, but about the very nature of exploration and discovery. He helped me plan my own Vegas photography projects, and I’ll forever be grateful for his kindness.
It’s incredibly hard to believe he’s gone. Romeo was a remarkable person, a force of nature, and his loss is deeply felt. I hope his spirit is now embarking on the most peaceful, awe-inspiring cosmic adventure, exploring the universe he so loved.
