A-L-I-E-N-S Hadley’s Hope

Let me tell you, I have loved science fiction for as long as I can remember. To me, sci-fi isn’t just a movie genre; it is an absolute obsession, a way to look past the walls of the room you are sitting in and touch the stars.

Back in the fall of 1980, life was a relentless grind. I was working as an architectural technologist with UMA Engineering, drafting hand-drawn specs for the 1988 Calgary Olympics, staring at blueprints from 9:00 am straight through to 10:00 pm.

By the time I finally walked through the front door, it was late, and I said goodbye to the babysitter. My wife was working late nights at the White Spot—and no, not the burger franchise. This White Spot was owned by Greeks, a proper fine-dinner restaurant and bar. She was a bartender back then, busting her tail going to school during the day to get into the medical field.

After the babysitter left, I would tiptoe down the hall and check in on little Jenni, who had been born just that April. She was fast asleep and completely adorable, her chest rising and falling in the dark. Once I knew she was safe and sound, I finally exhaled.

That was my cue to unwind.

I headed straight to the kitchen, popped the cap off a cold beer, grabbed some munchies, and marched into the living room to fire up the TV box—and I mean an actual heavy, wood-grain cabinet set back then that took a full minute just to warm up and hum to life.

Flipping channels at that hour usually got you snow or a test pattern, but on this specific night, I hit the absolute lottery. Oh yeah! We didn’t have remote controls back then. I was the remote control 😂.

Oh man ! The original Alien movie was playing on late-night TV, totally unedited.

Sitting there in the dark with the cold condensation dripping down my beer bottle, I was completely hooked. The television tubes smelled like hot dust, the house was dead silent, and suddenly I was crawling through the terrifying, metallic vents of the Nostromo right alongside the crew. Finding a masterpiece like that hiding in the wee hours of the morning felt like winning a million bucks. I was totally consumed by it, and honestly, I’ve chased that exact feeling ever since.

How about you ? Are you consumed by scifi horror movies ?

HADLEYS HOPE

When was the first time you watched the original scifi horror Alien movie? Do you remember what you were doing?

Hadley’s Hope

If you find this interesting I think you would be thrilled I am working on my own short sci-fi horror project called The Dark Hive. It’s a “What If” scenario canon to a lost footage angle of Aliens where Newt’s family—Anne, Russ, and Timmy, who found something they wished they never touched.

That nightmare didn’t just happen overnight. The timeline tells a brutal story: it starts back in 2122 with the original Nostromo disaster, moves to 2142 where the Romulus space station scavengers recovered those exact horrors from the wreckage, and leads straight down the line to 2179 when the Hadley’s Hope colony was placed right in harm’s way on LV-426.

Call me obsessed, but I am exploring the dark shadows of that timeline and I am never letting it go.

I’ve started a few test films 🎥  it’s the mere beginnings—reminding us, as the synthetic David famously noted, that “big things have small beginnings”—but now I am getting into the full storyline that will be aired soon on my YouTube Channel.

Here’s a test film of Hadleys Hope 👇
