Heading down the rabbits hole on this sci-fi goldmine.

I’ve been obsessed with LV-426 for a long time. Not just the big movie moments you already know. I mean everything. The quiet parts. The ordinary people who lived there. The kids who played in the vents. The day the colony went from “we’re building a future” to something that still feels like a nightmare.

That’s why this story matters so much to me.

The full story of Hadley’s Hope has never really been told properly on screen. The movies give us pieces : the discovery, the Marines arriving, Newt surviving ; but the actual collapse of the colony happens mostly off-screen. That whole middle section lives in books, comics, and the special edition. It feels like the perfect candidate for an offshoot story (yes, that’s the right kind of film term — a side story that sits inside the official Alien canon but focuses on something the main films only glance at).

I’ve tried writing a few “text films” before , little screenplay-style pieces just for myself. Some of them felt okay. Most of them felt incomplete. I kept realizing I didn’t know the colony well enough. The people. The exact order of the horror. The small human details.

So I’m starting over.

First I’m going to give you a clear outline of the colony itself. Then I’m going to dig much deeper into the real storyline for a new project I’m calling The Dark Hive of Hadley’s Hope

Anyway… here’s the story the way it deserves to be told.

Imagine a tiny, angry little moon way out in the black. It’s not a big planet like Earth. It’s just a rock called LV-426, one of three moons spinning around a giant gas ball named Calpamos. This place sits almost 39 light-years from home in a star system called Zeta 2 Reticuli.

The air was pure poison. The wind screamed like it hated everything that lived. Lightning never stopped. The ground shook. No plants. No animals. Just dust, rock, and storms that could flip a truck. When the first survey ships found it way back in 2039, they simply stuck a number on it: LV-426.

Years later the people who lived there gave it a new name. They called it Acheron. In the old Greek stories, Acheron was the River of Pain — the cold, dark water that dead souls had to cross to reach the underworld. Pretty perfect name for a place that felt like the edge of hell.

Why Weyland-Yutani decided to “shake and bake” this moon

Weyland-Yutani was the biggest, greediest company in the galaxy. They didn’t care if a place was ugly or dangerous. If they could make money, they went for it.

In 2157 they decided LV-426 would become a new home for people. They called the colony Hadley’s Hope, named after a man called Curtis Hadley who helped start it.

They called these places “shake and bake” colonies. That means they dropped pre-made buildings, machines, and families down onto the surface like dumping Legos out of a box. No slow building for years. Just boom — instant town.

The big heart of the colony was a giant machine called the Atmosphere Processor. Think of it like the biggest air-filter in the universe. Its job was to slowly change the poisonous air into something people could breathe. It was supposed to take about twenty years. While that was happening, the colonists also looked for valuable rocks and minerals to dig up and sell.

About 158 people lived there at the end : workers, scientists, moms, dads, and kids. Most of them stayed inside because outside was still cold, windy, mean and barely livable.

The exact dates that matter

• 2157 — Hadley’s Hope is born.
• March 15, 2173 — A baby girl is born. Her real name is Rebecca Jorden, but everyone calls her Newt. She is the very first human baby ever born on Acheron. The whole colony celebrated like it was the biggest party in the galaxy.
• June 2179 — Everything goes to hell.

Meet the Jorden family (the ones who changed everything)

Russ Jorden was a prospector , a guy who drove around looking for valuable rocks or cool discoveries so his family could maybe get rich and leave someday.

His wife Anne was tough and loving. She kept the family together.

They had two kids:

• Timmy : the big brother, about 10 years old. He was protective. He was the only person who still called his little sister by her real name, Rebecca.
• Newt : just 6 years old. Small, quiet, smart, and really good at hiding in the air vents (the kids used to play hide-and-seek in them even though Mom hated it).

Newt was special. She was the first human ever born on that lonely moon. That means she never knew Earth. Acheron was the only home she had ever known.

Can you imagine never knowing Earth ?

Why the Jordens were sent to the scary ship

Here’s the secret part Hadley’s Hope didn’t know.

Fifty-seven years earlier, a ship called the Nostromo had found a giant crashed alien spaceship on this same moon. Something terrible happened and almost everyone died. The only survivor was a woman named Ellen Ripley.

In 2179, people finally found Ripley floating in space in her escape pod. She told the company everything , including the exact place where that crashed ship was.

A company man named Carter Burke heard her story. He was ambitious and greedy. He secretly sent a message to the colony boss, Al Simpson. The message said: “Send a survey team to these coordinates. Check out whatever is there.”

Burke never told them about the face-huggers. He never warned them it was dangerous. He just wanted the aliens for the company’s weapons division so he could get a big promotion and lots of money.

Burke was the instigator of what happened next. It was Burke who told Simpson, “ Simpson, the Jorden family has proven themselves as our best prospectors. There’s an old automated beacon on the far side of the moon — probably just survey equipment left by an earlier probe. Routine check, high bonus for the whole family. Tell them to take the kids and make it a little adventure. Company appreciates loyal teams like yours.”

So — Simpson picked the Jorden family.

They were good at finding things in the wild. Russ and Anne took the kids with them in their big eight-wheeled tractor. They drove out past the mountains, following the numbers Burke had sent.

Without realizing the danger, Simpson encouraged the Jorden Family with that bonus offer. Had he known Burke’s greedy agenda, I am sure Simpson wouldn’t send a family into a dangerous mess.

What happened next (the part that still gives people nightmares)

On June 20–21, 2179, the family found it.

A huge, ancient, black spaceship half-buried in the rock. It looked like a giant dead insect. Russ and Anne left the kids in the tractor and went inside.

Inside they found a huge room filled with thousands of leathery eggs. One of them opened. A spider-like creature with a long tail jumped onto Russ’s face and wrapped around him. It was a Facehugger. It put something inside him.

Anne dragged her husband back outside. She was screaming into the radio for help. The kids saw their dad with that thing stuck to his face.

They got Russ back to the colony hospital. About 24 hours later, while Newt and Timmy were secretly watching through the air vents, something burst out of Russ’s chest. A tiny, screaming alien was born… and then it ran away into the dark.

The colony sent more people to check the ship. Those people also got face-hugged.

Within days the aliens grew big and strong. They started taking people one by one. They dragged them to the Atmosphere Processor and made a nest. The survivors tried to fight. They welded doors shut. They made last stands with whatever guns they had.

It wasn’t enough.

Timmy tried to protect his mom and little sister. He even shot one of the monsters. But the acid blood burned him. Anne died trying to save her kids.

Only Newt escaped. She crawled into the vents — the same ones she used to play in — and hid for days and days while the monsters hunted.

When the Colonial Marines finally arrived with Ripley, the colony was silent. Almost everyone was gone. Only one little girl was left… the first child ever born on Acheron.

That’s the real story of Hadley’s Hope.

A place that started with hope… and ended with the River of Pain living up to its name.

And a little girl named Newt who somehow survived the worst nightmare anyone has ever faced.

This is the story I want to tell properly in Dark Hive. And — maybe ? Just Maybe ? The mighty Gods of gifted directors, like Ridley Scott, James Cameron, David Fincher, Jean-Pierre Jeunet, and Fede Álvarez, along with the powerhouse production companies behind the Alien legacy, like 20th Century Studios, Brandywine Productions, and Scott Free will one day take hold of these stories and short canons… and transform them into the next awesome, inspiring, terrifying chapter of the Alien franchise.
